Chapter 50 - The Old Grey Whistle Test

The Co-Op used to be on the left, I still remember my Mum's number 447216.

To tell the story of the derivation of The Old Grey Whistle Test term we must travel west from The East End of London, into what is known as The West End, to a tiny street, Denmark Street, just off Charing Cross Road, in the heart of London’s theatreland. You can walk the length of Denmark Street in nothing more than two minutes and yet it’s where the fascinating title came to be, and, unlike Sweeney Todd, this is absolutely true.
